Concord sits in the City of Canada Bay, between the Majors Bay Road shops, Concord Oval and the Parramatta River frontage down past Bayview Park and the Yaralla estate. The housing is mostly inter-war and post-war brick on regular blocks — tiled hip roofs, wide eaves, low pitches, and a steady supply of 1950s and 1960s additions with skillion rear sections.

The river changes the materials conversation

Proximity to the Parramatta River and the bays means more salt in the air than suburbs further inland, and that matters for metal work. Fasteners and flashings need to be matched to the exposure, and dissimilar metals have to be kept apart — old copper or lead in contact with new steel, or runoff from one onto the other, sets up corrosion quickly in a saline atmosphere.
